Welcome to the Largo Community Church Missions Ministry

World Missions                                                Home Missions

As Jesus met with His disciples for forty days following His resurrection, He instructed them concerning His future kingdom -- a kingdom that they would continue to populate with new citizens. Most remarkably, He told them in Acts 1:8 that in order to accomplish this ongoing task, He would give them the indwelling power of His Spirit so they would not have to rely on their own limited strength. From there they took the good news of new life in Jesus to Jerusalem and Judea, to Samaria, and on to the uttermost parts of the world.

It is in this reliance on the power of God that Largo Community Church presses ahead in its own role as salt and light in our community and culture, seeking to clearly hold forth the good news of the gospel. And in the same way that the New Testament records the advance of the gospel to a variety of cultural and social situations, we at the Largo Community Church look for opportunities in our modern setting.

Our domestic missions program centers around Change Point, a multi-faceted ministry of FM radio, TV and 24-hour Dial-A-Prayer. We reach overseas with the work of our International Gospel Outreach (IGO), SIM and Wycliffe Bible Translators missionaries.

In short, we see our mission as corporately and individually doing all we can to lead others to Christ, then establish them in their new-found faith.

From the beginning we have been a missions-minded church.

Our pastor normally goes twice each year to various countries in Southeast Asia to teach a series of classes to Asian pastors, helping them to better lead their congregations while gaining credit towards Master’s degrees.

We also support Bruce and Robin Walton with SIM in Niger, West Africa, where they minister to the nomadic Tamajaq people.

Our own Rob and Lois Thar serve in Benin, West Africa, with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

The Asia-Pacific Theological Seminary in the Philippines receives our support as it trains and equips students from many different countries throughout Asia.

On the home front, Pastor Morris has a variety of radio/TV/telephone outreach ministries under the Change Point banner. Elsewhere on our Web page, check out the schedule of broadcasts on WAVA, as well as the telecasts on Channel 9 (WUSA).

Asia-Pacific Theological Seminary (APTS) was founded in 1964 with the express purpose of conserving the fruits of the Asia-Pacific revival by training men and women to meet the leadership needs of Asia's fast growing church organizations. Presently, APTS graduates are serving in diverse positions of leadership throughout Asia. With students from many Asia-Pacific churches, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S., led by a cross-cultural faculty with many years of experience in their fields of instruction, APTS offers a close-knit campus community that encourages worship, spiritual growth, and maturity.

The Bible is dynamic: it changes lives. But more than 440 million people, almost 2/3 of the world's language groups, don't have a single verse in their heart language. Wycliffe Bible Translators helps to bring them God's Word. Explore this section to find out about Wycliffe: who we are, our history and beliefs, what we have accomplished and what we have yet to accomplish. Wycliffe Bible Translators' goal is for everyone to have God's Word in their heart language. Wycliffe -- it's about life!
